Why did you join the Police Service?

I decided in my mid 20’s that I wanted a change of career and saw an advertisement for the PSNI.  I always wanted a job where I can help people and give support to those when they need it the most.
I think back to when I was in P6 in school and the local policing team came out to visit and had a talk with us about alcohol and drugs.  I am now in my early 30’s and I am still grateful of those interactions in school as I believe it is one of the biggest influences to why I am the person I am today.

What are you enjoying most about the Student Officer Training?

I am enjoying learning new skills but also learning more about myself as it is challenging and you can find yourself in situations you would never be in which makes you push yourself. One of the most enjoyable things about training is that you are in a class with around 30 other people, each person is different and brings their own strengths to the class.  No sooner have you started, you are relying on each other and supporting each other to do better, cheering each other's victories and encouraging them through weaknesses as though you have known each other for years.

What do you hope to achieve in your career?

I hope to make a difference in my community and be able to give people who I meet the help and support they need. One day, I would like to make a positive influence in someone’s life just as I had in mine.
