To encourage more people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to join the police, we've talked to some of our current Student Officers to find out why they joined the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Read Student Officer Nelson's experience below.

Testimonals

“I know there are lots of opportunities for progression within the Police Service, but initially, I just want to get to know the community I am working in, build relationships in the area and make a difference.”

Why did you join the Police Service?
I joined the Police straight after leaving school. I knew I didn’t want to do further education or work a nine to five desk job.

I think I will enjoy the diversity within the role as every single day is different.

What are you enjoying most about the Student Officer Training?
Where do I start?! From first aid training to firearms, I have enjoyed so many aspects of the Student Officer Training.

Even my fitness has improved and I’ve learnt skills that will benefit me both outside and inside the job.

What do you hope to achieve as a Police Officer?
I know there are lots of opportunities for progression within the Police Service, but initially, I just want to get to know the community I am working in, building relationships in the area and make a difference.
