Category: Incident and Crime Statistics - Crime Statistics

Subject: Proceeds of crime

Request and Answer:
Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act, we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold the information you have requested to which your request relates.  The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

Request 1
The total number and total value of the following types of assets seized, frozen, or restrained under the Proceeds of Crime Act or equivalent powers:

  • Cash
  • Vehicles (e.g. cars, vans, motorcycles)
  • Real property (e.g. land, houses, commercial buildings)
  • Other assets (e.g. jewellery, watches, designer goods or other "listed assets”)
  • Bank accounts frozen (via Account Freezing Orders), if recorded separately

If available, please also provide a breakdown of vehicles and other assets (e.g. jewellery, designer goods) by type — for example, the make and model of vehicles or the brand/type of items seized.

Request 2
The total number and value of assets confiscated, forfeited, or recovered through civil recovery or criminal confiscation in the same period.

Request 3
For each of the above (1 and 2), a breakdown by police district or county area (whichever geographic division PSNI uses internally for asset seizure statistics), if held.

Request 4
If available, a breakdown of seizures/confiscations by type of underlying offence (e.g. drug offences, fraud, money laundering), where recorded.

Please provide the information in the form of a spreadsheet or table (Excel, CSV, or similar preferred format), with annual figures and relevant breakdowns as outlined above

Clarification requested:
Advised that request 4 could not be broken down into district/ area as this would make the customer’s request be over cost, but could be provided with yearly information within the timeframe.

Clarification received:
Customer confirmed that providing the yearly information would be suffice.
