Police in Derry/Londonderry are appealing for information and witnesses as part of an investigation into how a man sustained a significant head injury. 

At 6.14am this morning, 23 July, it was reported the man was found lying on the road in Benevenagh Gardens. Emergency services colleagues from NIAS were on scene, and subsequently transferred the man to hospital for treatment.

Appealing for information, Chief Inspector Ian Ferriby said: "We believe the man may have been lying on the ground for some time before he was located and the incident reported.

"Our officers have carried out a number of enquiries so far, including speaking with residents, and I want to thank everyone who has assisted police. 

"As we continue with enquiries to establish exactly what happened, I make this appeal.

"Were you in the area between the early hours of this morning and 6am? Do you recall seeing anything unusual?

"You may have information or captured footage which may assist enquiries. If so, I appeal to you to call us on 101, or make a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals quoting reference 211 of 23/07/26"
