Two police officers sustained injuries after their vehicle was rammed in the Dromore area of County Down, on Wednesday 20th May.

At around 12.15pm on Wednesday afternoon, Tactical Support Group officers were conducting a mobile patrol on the Killysorrell Road, near Blackskull, when they encountered a beige/gold coloured Ford Galaxy with defective number plates. The officers, who were travelling in an unmarked Skoda, followed the car a short distance to Villa Wood Road where it stopped suddenly and reversed into the police vehicle. The Ford Galaxy continued on to the Gowdystown Road where it once again stopped and reversed at speed into the police car before making off southbound on the A1 carriageway. Two officers required medical treatment following the incident and the police vehicle sustained frontal damage causing it to be off the road for a period for repairs.

Inspector Rice said: “Thankfully, the injuries our officers sustained were not too serious, however, it is unacceptable that people working to keep their community safe should be targeted in this way. A police vehicle was also damaged which has an impact on our ability to carry out our duties on behalf of the local community.

“Our enquiries are continuing and anyone with information, or who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage which could assist can contact police on 101, quoting reference 601 20/05/26.
