Police received a report of a body on the beach in the Moor Road area of Kilkeel just before 6.15am on Thursday, 21st May.
Officers attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services and the body, believed to be of a man aged in his 40s, has now been removed from the scene.
A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be carried out in due course.
As a result of enquiries conducted by officers this morning, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
