Shortly after 7pm, police received calls that a white articulated lorry was being driven 'recklessly', through the village of Ballykelly, hitting kerbs and almost hitting a child, as well as on Clooney Road, and then driven towards Campsie.
Officers from Derry City & Strabane responded, locating a lorry in Campsie, matching the description of the one reported. Following enquiries at the scene, and a search of the lorry, during which suspected drugs and a sum of cash was seized, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Driving when unfit through drink or drug, No driving licence, Using a motor vehicle without insurance, Possession of a Class C controlled drug and Possessing Criminal property. He remains in custody at this time.
Inspector Ryan Robb, from the Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team, says enquiries are ongoing, and appeals to anyone with information or footage that may have captured the movements of the lorry yesterday evening to call police on 101, quoting reference 1635 of 22/06/26. A report can also be made via the non-emergency reporting form at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/

Inspector Robb thanked those who made reports, and encourages anyone who witnesses anything of concern on the road to report it, adding: “You may not think it’s worth reporting but, even if you have the slightest concern, call police on 101, always 999 in an emergency, as it can be significant and make a difference.”
