Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Serious Crime Branch, investigating the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh in February 2023, have charged a man to court.

The charge follows his arrest and subsequent detention under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday, 18th November.

The 73-year-old man, arrested in the Ardboe area, has been charged with the preparation of terrorist acts and perverting the course of justice.

He is due to appear before Strabane Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning, Thursday 20th November.

As is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A second man arrested on Tuesday 18th November, aged 37, has been released to be reported to the Public Prosecution Service.
