A security alert in the Hillview Avenue area of Lisburn has now ended.
Local policing Inspector Roberts said: “At around 6.50pm on Wednesday evening, 6th May, it was reported that a suspected explosive device had been found at the front of a residential property.
“A number of residents were advised to evacuate, with local facilities opened to accommodate them.
“Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended the scene and examined the item, carrying out a controlled explosion before deeming it to be an elaborate hoax.
“Cordons have been lifted and those who were evacuated are now able to return.
“We appreciate the inconvenience caused to residents when they were out of their homes, and we thank them for their patience and co-operation as this public safety operation was conducted.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to contact 101, quoting reference number 1483 06/05/26.
“You can also submit a report or information online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
