Police have made an arrest following a series of burglaries in Newcastle.
Sergeant Gracey said: “We received a report at around 12.10am on Wednesday, 3rd December of a male intruder at commercial premises in the Carrigs Road area. It was reported that the male entered the premises briefly, taking a sum of money before making off.
“Officers attended the scene, where some of the money was subsequently recovered.
“After conducting enquiries, officers made an arrest today, Friday, 5th December.
“A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He was later released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
“We believe that the person arrested today was also involved with a number of similar incidents which took place in the Carrigs Road area over recent weeks. These include the theft of a sum of money on Sunday, 2nd November, where the front door of the premises was also damaged. An intruder was then reported to have forced entry via the same door on Monday, 3rd November, although no money was taken on that occasion.
“Meanwhile, on Sunday, 9th November, we received a report of an attempted break-in at the premises, with a further report made on Sunday, 23rd November, when a male was reported to have forced entry at two locations on the premises, damaging glass doors and a window as a result. There was also further damage reported to another interior door.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would ask that anyone with any information that might assist contact police on 101, quoting reference number 8 of 03/12/25.
“You can also submit a report or information online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
