The Foreglen Road in Dungiven has now re-opened following an earlier police search in the area.
Inspector Brogan said: “The search was conducted in response to a claim that an explosive device had been left in the area. While a thorough search was carried out and nothing sinister was found, I would ask any members of the public travelling in this general area to remain vigilant and to report anything at all suspicious to police immediately on 999.
“We will now work to find those responsible for this incident and anyone with information which could assist us with our enquiries can contact officers on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1477 27/06/26.
