An earlier security alert in the Areema Drive area of Dunmurry has now ended.

Police received a report at approximately 12.40pm today, Friday 28th November, of a suspicious object in the area.

The Duty Inspector said: “Our officers attended the scene, along with ammunition technical officers, who examined the device. It was discovered to be a viable pipe bomb and was subsequently made safe.

“Neighbouring properties were evacuated as our enquiries were conducted and the device was taken away for further examination.

“We appreciate that people were out of their homes for most of Friday as this public safety operation was conducted and we thank people for their patience during this time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to contact 101, quoting reference number 690 of 28/11/25.
