A man has been arrested in connection with a serious road traffic collision in Omagh.

Chief Inspector McConville said: “Police received a report at approximately 7.05pm on Saturday, 25th July of a collision involving a Peugeot Partner van and quad bike on the Edergole Road.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

“A man, aged in his 40s, and eight-year-old female child, both sustained serious injuries, and were taken onward to hospital for further treatment.

“The driver of the van, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of offences including driving with excess alcohol in breath, and causing grievous bodily injury by driving carelessly with excess alcohol.

“He remains in custody at this time as our enquiries continue into the circumstances of what happened. The road which was closed for a time to allow for further enquiries, has now been fully reopened."
