Police are at the scene of a security alert in the Roosevelt Street area of south Belfast following the search of a property during the early hours of this morning, Thursday 9th July.

A number of items have been recovered from this search, which have now been removed for further examination.

Two people, a man and woman, have also been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Properties located in the Iverna Street and Roosevelt Street have been evacuated – and the Sandy Row Community Centre has been opened for local residents. Cordons are also in place.

Officers remain at the scene alongside Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) as enquiries are set to continue for some time.

We understand the disruption this may cause, however, public safety is always our priority.

We thank everyone for their co-operation at this time, and a further update will follow in due course.
