Police in Ballymena have made two arrests during the early hours of this morning, Friday 5th June, in relation to drugs and motoring-related offences.

Sergeant Allen said: “At approximately 1am, officers were conducting mobile patrols in Ballymena, and whilst on the Antrim Road, they observed a car being driven erratically.

“Police followed the vehicle for a time before signalling it to stop – the driver was unsteady on his feet.

“He was searched and police located a small quantity of suspected Class B drugs in his jacket, a search of the vehicle also recovered a quantity of suspected Class A drugs.

“The 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a number of driving offences, as well as possession of a Class A controlled drug, and possession of a Class B controlled drug – he remains in custody at this time.

“Separately, a 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a Class C controlled drug, and possessing an article with a blade or point in a public place.

“The arrest occurred at approximately 2.50am when police where on patrol in the Crebilly Road area.

“Officers noted a man walking on a footpath with a plastic bag in his hands, as officers approached, he made off on foot.

“Before being detained a short time later, he produced a knife and was subsequently searched – with officers locating small amounts of suspected Class B controlled drugs and Class C controlled drugs.

“Our enquiries are continuing into both of these reports – and the items recovered will now undergo forensic examination.”
